I'm no different to you. I'm just a 15-year-old kid who got some really cheap decks and practised every day.
I'm stood outside Hï Ibiza and my face is on the wall. Here's how I got here.
20 years ago, my mum and dad bought me some secondhand decks. Vinyl decks, really shit ones. I didn't really know what I was doing. I was just playing around — but I loved it. Played tunes every day.
When I was 16 I was DJing at my mate's birthday party. When I was 18 I handed out CDs in the street and got myself an opening slot in a local club. From there, I started DJing in local clubs every single night, just getting better.
Eventually I learned: if you get a laptop you can make music. So I taught myself. I wanted to make the music that was in my head, started making remixes. New remix every week, put it on SoundCloud.
Some DJs started playing them. One day David Guetta played one of my remixes. Shortly after that, a few management companies started emailing me, and I found myself working with a manager.
The manager told me I had to collaborate with other people, go in the studio with songwriters and stuff. I did that for about a year, made a song people actually liked playing on the radio. From that day, I started getting big DJ gigs, playing festivals.
Then I went back to the studio to try and make more music. Wasn't making anything good at all. So frustrating. I spent like three years without making anything great. Then one day I made a record you probably know, called Ferrari. It went platinum all over the world. Totally life-changing.
The reason I'm telling you this — I want whoever's watching to know: I'm no different to you. I'm just a 15-year-old kid who wanted to be a DJ, who got some really cheap decks and practised every day. I'm just a guy who turned up to the studio every day, making music even when it wasn't clicking, even when it wasn't working. Just carried on going.
So if that sounds like you, keep going. Because we're at Hï now.
