Balance is the worst advice for DJs and producers

Balance is for people who don't like what they do.

This is the worst advice for DJs and producers. Balance.

Balance is for people who don't like what they do. Balance is for people who sit at work watching the clock, waiting to leave their job and go and live their real life.

If you're one of the lucky ones who's found that one thing you actually love — even if no one's paying you to do it — you don't need balance. Years ago when I first started making music, I was producing for eight hours all day. Go to the club at night, test the music, come home, open my laptop, do it again. Seven days a week.

No one who made it to the top got there by protecting their balance. Balance is a luxury you unlock. It comes when people know your name, when you can say no to opportunities because you've earned the choice.

Before that, you've got to be a fucking psycho. For years you've got to be obsessed, tunnel vision, choosing the thing over and over again over the comfort. It doesn't mean you've got to destroy yourself forever. It means you've got to understand the season you're in.

You build first. The balance comes later.
