The grind nobody posts about

I used to take the drug from Limitless because I thought it would help me finish tracks in my studio. Modafinil, caffeine, red bull, nicotine — all at the same time, every single day.

I'd wake up around lunchtime, walk half a mile to my studio, and work non-stop until five in the morning. Remixes, originals, writing songs with other people. Every day. For years.

Here's the part no one ever says out loud. It was lonely as hell. It was terrible for my health. And honestly, it wasn't even that productive. I'm not a naturally gifted musician, so I was slow. Most of the time I was just getting stuck. 99% of the music I made, nobody ever heard.

But it also built me everything I am. Every track I've ever released. Every show. Every person who's learned my name. That's all because of the work I did in that studio at 2am, on stimulants, making music that no one liked.

So the grind isn't romantic. It's not Instagrammable. And it's definitely not good for you. But nothing else I've ever done has worked without it.
